People were not immediately trusting or fans of his work- some with religious objections, some with scientific, some because they would lose money on what they were selling (which didn’t work).
His work and theories eventually did work and have gone on to save millions of lives. We know now that he was right.
Close to the end of his life, he said to a friend, “I am not surprised that men are not thankful to me; but I wonder that they are not grateful to God for the good which he has made me the instrument of conveying to my fellow-creatures.”
Is there someone whose work we may not yet understand but for which we should, perhaps, be thankful to God?
